Red Bulls' Cichero fined, suspended for elbowing TFC's Dichio


New York, NY (Sports Network) - The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee suspended New York Red Bulls defender Gabriel Cichero one game and fined him $250 for endangering another player with a blow to the head in the Red Bulls game vs. Toronto FC on Sunday.

In the 46th minute of the Red Bulls game vs. Toronto FC on Aug. 17, Cichero struck Toronto FC player Danny Dichio in the head with his elbow and was issued a red card for the offense. Dichio was injured on the play and did not return to the game. This fine and suspension are in addition to the automatic one game suspension and $250 fine for the red card, totaling a two-game suspension and a $500 fine. Cichero will miss the Red Bulls next match vs. the Houston Dynamo on Aug. 24, and the following match vs. D.C. United on Aug. 30.
