Red Bulls' Kovalenko shipped to RSL for draft pick

Secaucus, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Red Bulls announced on Wednesday that they have acquired a conditional 2010 MLS SuperDraft selection from Real Salt Lake in exchange for midfielder Dema Kovalenko.

"We want to thank Dema for his time with the Red Bulls organization," Red Bull New York Sporting Director Jeff Agoos said. "During the past two years with New York, Dema has been a consummate professional. We wish him well with this move to Real Salt Lake."

Kovalenko, 30, was acquired from D.C. United on Aug. 10, 2006, along with Shawn Kuykendall for a partial allocation. Over his two seasons with the Red Bulls, Kovalenko appeared in 31 matches, starting 27, and scored two goals while adding one assist. Since joining MLS in 1999, Kovalenko has appeared in 198 games and scored 36 goals and added 36 assists with Chicago, D.C. United and New York.
