Red Bulls add attacker

Secaucus, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Red Bulls announced Saturday that they have signed midfielder/forward Francis Doe. To make room for Doe on the 28-man roster, midfielder/forward Santino Quaranta was placed on the teams season-ending injury list. Doe will count as the teams third youth international, joining Elie Ikangu (France) and Dane Richards (Jamaica). He will be available for selection for the Red Bulls match against the New England Revolution Saturday at Gillette Stadium.

"Francis is a young, strong player who can immediately contribute to our team," Red Bull New York Technical Director Jeff Agoos said. "He provides another option for us in the attacking third and we are excited to have him on our squad."

Doe, who has been training with the Red Bulls for the past month, was most recently with Greek Super League side Atromitos FC for the last two years. During his time there, the 21-year-old played in 34 league games, finding the back of the net eight times. Doe also played 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss to Spanish La Liga side, Sevilla, in the UEFA Cup on Sept. 14, 2006. The Liberian was also with USL First Division side, the Minnesota Thunder, in 2004 and 2005. He started his career at Ghanaian club, Buduburam FC.

On the international level, Doe has represented Liberia at the 2006 World Cup qualifiers as well as in the 2008 African Cup qualifying stages.

Quaranta was acquired by the Red Bulls on June 29 from the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for a conditional fourth round 2008 MLS SuperDraft pick. He has appeared in three games since joining the Red Bulls before picking up a right toe sprain that has sidelined him.
