Red Bulls midfielder Van den Bergh out 2-3 weeks

Secaucus, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York midfielder Dave van den Bergh will undergo surgery Friday to repair a sports hernia and is likely to miss 2-3 weeks, the club announced Tuesday.

Van den Bergh is second on the team in goals with six and recently scored the game-winner in New York's come-from-behind 2-1 win against Real Salt Lake.

Van den Bergh has started 22 matches in his two seasons with New York. He also has three assists this season, which is tied for third on the team.

New York visits first-place Columbus on Thursday.
