Red Bulls name Agoos Sporting Director

Secaucus, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York announced Monday that Jeff Agoos was named the team's Sporting Director. Agoos, who has been with New York since 2007 as the team's technical director, will take the lead in scouting players worldwide, help manage the organization's youth developmental system and work hand in hand with the Red Bulls' coach Juan Carlos Osorio.

"Over the course of his career, Jeff has been a part of five championship teams at the professional level; he undoubtedly knows what it takes to establish a winning culture within a team," Red Bull New York Managing Director Marc de Grandpre said. "Since joining the Red Bulls, he has shown that he can execute our long term vision of becoming a preeminent sports franchise. I am confident that he has the ability to assemble a winning team of driven, disciplined and passionate players that will continually compete for championships."

"First of all, I would like to thank Marc and Red Bull for giving me the opportunity as the teams Sporting Director," Agoos stated. "I am excited to continue working for a club with such high aspirations. I look forward to working on the challenges in laying the groundwork for Red Bull New York and moving towards our goal of winning silverware."

Agoos, 39, was one of the most accomplished players in MLS history. A part of five MLS Cup championship teams, Agoos was a nine-time MLS All-Star and three- time Best XI winner. In his final year in 2005, the left-sided defender played for New York, making 25 starts. During that season, Agoos was named to the league's All-Time Best XI.

On the international level, the University of Virginia alumnus was a member of the 1998 and 2002 U.S. World Cup squads and has earned a total of 134 caps, second to midfielder Cobi Jones.
