Rutten to take over at Schalke next seasonGelsenkirchen, Germany (Sports Network) - Schalke have confirmed the appointment of Fred Rutten as their new coach for next season. Rutten, 45, will leave current club Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie to take the helm at the Veltins Arena in the summer. He will succeed Mirko Slomka in the hot-seat following the decision to axe the former coach after being thrashed 5-1 by Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga two weeks ago. Rutten, who has worked as number two at PSV Eindhoven, has led Twente to fourth place in the Eredivisie this season. He has agreed a two-year contract with the Gelsenkirchen club.
