Ryan resigns as commissioner/CEO of MISL

Westport, CT (Sports Network) - Steve Ryan, commissioner and chief executive officer of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), announced his resignation, effective immediately on Tuesday.

"After eight years with the MISL/NPSL, I've decided it's time for new challenges," Ryan said. "I look back on the past eight years with pride. The league has made tremendous strides, both on the field of play and off. However, there are differing opinions held among league ownership regarding the future direction of the league. I believe it is in the best interest of the league that they make decisions without my thinking. The immediacy of my decision affords me the opportunity to focus on personal matters with my family and extended family."

Ryan was named commissioner in August of 2000.

The MISL Management Committee will begin formal discussions of transition planning and the future direction of the league between now June 2.
