San Jose defender Ayres has successful surgerySan Jose, CA (Sports Network) - San Jose Earthquakes defender Jay Ayres had successful surgery to repair a facial fracture on Thursday and is expected to be sidelined for eight weeks, the club announced Friday night. Ayres and defender Ryan Cochrane were involved in a collision April 30 during a U.S. Open Cup game at Real Salt Lake. Both players sustained concussions and Ayres also suffered a facial fracture.
Ayres has appeared in one reserve game and one U.S. Open Cup game this season.
He played 90 minutes in the 'Quakes reserves 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles
Galaxy reserves on April 4.
