Saviola hopes to remain with Real Madrid

Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Forgotten man Javier Saviola is determined to prove his worth to Real Madrid during the final weeks of the La Liga season.

The Argentina forward returned to the starting line-up and the score sheet in Sunday's victory over Athletic Bilbao which edged Real closer to the league title.

Saviola has struggled with injury during his first season at the Bernabeu following last summer's surprise free transfer switch from rivals Barcelona.

But amid claims the diminutive forward could be on his way at the end of the campaign, Saviola has revealed his desire to remain in Madrid.

"I am delighted to have played again and to help the team at a time when we are so close to the title," he said.

"It was a night that I will never forget and was my reward for all the hard work I have done in the past few weeks.

"I have said that my desire is to stay with Real Madrid, but only when the campaign is over will I sit down and discuss this."
