Spurs agree on fee for PSV's GomesLondon, England (Sports Network) - Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a fee with PSV Eindhoven for Brazil goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes. The 27-year-old international will now travel to White Hart Lane to discuss personal terms in a reported $14 million deal.
Head coach Juande Ramos is keen to bring a new goalkeeper to the club after
dropping regular number one and England international Paul Robinson at times
last season. Ramos has also allowed former number two Radek Cerny to join QPR this summer, which leaves just youngster Ben Alnwick on the books. Robinson has been linked with a move to Aston Villa and his four-year stay at the north London club now appears to be coming towards a close. Gomes joined PSV in 2004 from Cruzeiro and is renowned for his shot-stopping ability. The keeper caught the eye of Ramos after starring during the Dutch club's UEFA Cup second knockout round success over Spurs on penalties in March. Speaking earlier in the week, PSV's managing director Jan Reker admitted a deal for the keeper was likely. (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
