Sunderland signs Chimbonda away from TottenhamSunderland, England (Sports Network) - Sunderland manager Roy Keane has made Tottenham fullback Pascal Chimbonda his third signing in three days as he continues to rebuild his squad in readiness for the start of the new Premier League campaign. The 29-year-old Frenchman has penned a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed transfer fee for the former Wigan Athletic star.
Keane told the Black Cats' official website: "Pascal's one of those rare
players who can play anywhere across the back line and that will be invaluable
to us, so naturally we're very pleased to secure his services. "He has a lot of Premier League experience which can only be a plus for us and he'll give us more options at the back, creating more competition for places there so, all in all, it's a fantastic signing for us." Chimbonda moved to White Hart Lane from Wigan for $9 million in August 2006 and follows in the footsteps of Finland midfielder Teemu Tainio who moved from Spurs to Wearside earlier in the week. Chimbonda played for Le Havre and Bastia in his homeland before being snapped up by Wigan three years ago. Keane has also captured veteran goalkeeper Nick Colgan on a one-year contract and is set to let Marton Fulop join Stoke City. (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
