USA dominates JamaicaCiudad Juarez, Mexico (Sports Network) - Abby Wambach scored two goals and helped set up two more as the United States crushed Jamaica 6-0 in their opening match of 2008 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying. The win, along with Mexico's 8-1 thrashing of Jamaica, puts the United States and Mexico through to the semifinals, with the two teams playing Sunday to determine the top team in Group A.
Wambach set up the USA's opener in the 16th minute when she beat a pair of
defenders and took the ball to the end line before pulling it back to Carli
Lloyd, who finished off the play with a first-time strike into the bottom
right corner. It took five minutes for the lead to double as Lauren Cheney put away the second goal after some good individual work from Wambach. The Americans took a two-goal lead into the break, but Cheney drew a penalty kick eight minutes after the restart and Wambach converted from the spot to make it 3-0. Lindsay Tarpley then played provider in the 68th minute on Wambach's second goal of the match, and Tarpley also set up Heather O'Reilly's tally in the 88th minute to push the USA's lead to 5-0. Tobin Heath capped the scoring deep into stoppage time when she took a pass from Cheney inside the box and buried her second goal in seven appearances for the full national team.
