Veterans Pope, Jones named MLS All-Stars


New York, NY (Sports Network) - Real Salt Lake's Eddie Pope and Los Angeles' Cobi Jones, two players who have been in Major League Soccer since it first season 12 years ago, were added to the final All-Star roster Tuesday.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber named Pope, a defender, and Jones, a midfielder, as the two "Commissioner's Picks." Pope and Jones are both retiring at the end of the season.

Los Angeles forward Landon Donovan, Kansas City goalie Kevin Hartman, Toronto FC midfielder Ronnie O'Brien, Colorado midfielder Pablo Mastroeni and Houston forward Brian Ching are the other five additions to the 18-man roster. Coach Steve Nicol of the New England Revolution selected those additions.

The First XI for the All-Star roster was announced last week.

The Chicago Fire and the Columbus Crew are the only MLS teams not represented at the All-Star game.

The game is July 19 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo., at 9 p.m. (ET) against Scottish Premier champs Celtic FC.

Following is the complete MLS All-Star Roster:

Forwards: Juan Pablo Angel (Red Bull New York), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Eddie Johnson (Kansas City Wizards).

Midfielders: Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Dwayne De Rosario (Houston Dynamo), Christian Gomez (D.C. United), Cobi Jones (Los Angeles Galaxy), Shalrie Joseph (New England Revolution), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids), Ronnie OBrien (Toronto FC), Juan Toja (FC Dallas).

Defenders: Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Michael Parkhurst (New England Revolution), Eddie Pope (Real Salt Lake).

Goalkeepers: Matt Reis (New England Revolution), Kevin Hartman (Kansas City Wizards).
