Chakvetadze charges into Pilot Pen semis

New Haven, CT (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Anna Chakvetadze of Russia was an easy quarterfinal winner Thursday at the $600,000 Pilot Pen Tennis event, a final hardcourt U.S. Open tune-up.

Chakvetadze charged past Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 6-3 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.

Day-5 upsets came when seventh-seeded Alize Cornet of France took out struggling second-seeded Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki waltzed past third-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli 6-4, 6-0. Hantuchova is a dismal 4-8 in her last 12 matches. Bartoli was last year's Wimbledon runner-up.

Cornet and Wozniacki will square off in Friday's semis.

This week's winner will collect $95,500.
