Davydenko, Monaco land in Warsaw quarters

Warsaw, Poland (Sports Network) - Top-seeded and former champion Nikolay Davydenko and third-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco highlighted Wednesday's second-round winners at the $670,000 Warsaw Open.

The 2006 champion Davydenko came from behind to beat Czech Jiri Vanek 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, while Monaco handled France's Florent Serra 7-5, 6-3 at this clay- court event, which was previously held in Sopot.

Davydenko will face fellow Russian Evgeny Korolev in Friday's quarterfinals, while Monaco will battle seventh-seeded Spaniard Marcel Granollers.

In other Day-3 action, Korolev topped sixth-seeded Italian Potito Starace 7-5, 4-0 and Granollers grounded Brazilian Marcos Daniel 6-2, 6-4. Starace retired in the second set against Korolev, citing a headache.

On Thursday, second-seeded and defending champion Tommy Robredo will take on American Wayne Odesnik. The Spanish Robredo defeated 2002 champion Jose Acasuso in last year's finale in Sopot and also captured this tournament in 2001.
