Davydenko, Robredo reach Warsaw semisWarsaw, Poland (Sports Network) - Top-seeded and former champion Nikolay Davydenko and second-seeded and defending titlist Tommy Robredo were among Friday's quarterfinal winners at the $670,000 Warsaw Open. The world No. 4 Davydenko routed fellow Russian Evgeny Korolev 6-4, 6-2, while Robredo came from behind to best fellow Spaniard Oscar Hernandez 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in 2 hours, 23 minutes. Davydenko captured this event, in Sopot, two years ago, while Robredo defeated 2002 champion Jose Acasuso in last year's finale and also captured this tournament in 2001 in the former host city, Sopot.
Davydenko's semifinal opponent on Saturday will be Italian Fabio Fognini,
while Robredo will take on third-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco. Monaco handled seventh-seeded Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-4, 6-3 on Day 5 here, while Fognini ousted fifth-seeded Argentine Guillermo Canas 7-5, 7-5 at Warszawianka Sport Club. This clay-court event is staged two weeks before the start of the grass-court extravaganza that is Wimbledon.
