Ferrer wins Ordina final

's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer downed unseeded Frenchman Marc Gicquel in straight sets to win the grass-court Ordina Open, a final Wimbledon tuneup.

The world No. 5 Ferrer ripped Gicquel 6-4, 6-2 for his first ATP grass court title, and his seventh overall. The 31-year-old Gicquel, meanwhile, has never titled in the ATP, falling to 0-3 in finals, including back-to-back title matches in Lyon in 2006 and 2007.

Gicquel had upended seventh-seeded Argentine Guillermo Canas 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 at Autotron Rosmalen to reach the final. Canas was a finalist here in 2001.

The 26-year-old Ferrer, an Australian and French Open quarterfinalist this season, appeared in his 12th career final. The 2007 Tennis Masters Cup finalist captured an event in Valencia this year and was a runner-up in Barcelona.

Gicquel was 2-0 lifetime against Ferrer before Saturday, with their last meeting coming in 2006. They had never met on grass, however.

Ferrer collected $92,000 for winning the title.
