Gicquel, Darcis reach Dutch Open quarters

Amersfoort, The Netherlands (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Frenchman Marc Gicquel and reigning champion Steve Darcis of Belgium highlighted Wednesday's second-round winners at the clay-court Dutch Open.

Gicquel got past Dutch wild card Thiemo De Bakker 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, while the third-seeded Darcis held off Spaniard Alberto Martin 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) at Sportlokaal de Bokkeduinen. Darcis defeated Austrian Werner Eschauer in last year's finale here to capture his first-ever ATP title.

In other second-round action, Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili upset seventh-seeded Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello 6-4, 6-0 and Belgian Christophe Rochus rolled past German Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 6-4.

Gicquel will meet Gabashvili in Friday's quarterfinals, while Darcis will encounter his compatriot Rochus.

The 2008 Dutch Open winner will take home $86,000.
