Kirilenko, Srebotnik cruise; Erakovic upset at Slovenia Open


Portoroz, Slovenia (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Maria Kirilenko and second- seeded Katarina Srebotnik were dominant first-round winners, while sixth- seeded Marina Erakovic was a surprise loser on Tuesday at the $145,000 Banka Koper Slovenia Open

The Russian Kirilenko made short work of Croatia's Nika Ozegovic 6-1, 6-1 to set up a second-round matchup with Italy's Roberta Vinci.

New Zealand's Erakovic was upended by France's Camille Pin 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.

Srebotnik, a native of Slovenia and the 2007 runner-up here, dispatched of Croatian Sanda Mamic 6-2, 6-2. The eighth seed, Italian Sara Errani, was tested in her opening round contest but rallied to top countrywoman Maria Elena Camerin 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-1.

In other first round action, Vinci topped fellow Italian Alberta Brianti 6-1, 6-3, while German Julia Goerges eased past Russian Ekaterina Bychkova 6-4, 6-3. Russia's Elena Bovina advanced over Ukrainian Tatiana Perebiynis 6-3, 6-4, Italy's Mara Santangelo held on to top Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, and Croatia's Karolina Sprem was a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner over Russian Evgeniya Rodina.

The 2008 Slovenia Open champion will claim $22,900.
