Kirilenko takes Barcelona final


Barcelona, Spain (Sports Network) - Second-seeded Russian Maria Kirilenko blitzed Spanish wildcard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in straight sets to win the $145,000 clay-court Barcelona KIA tennis event.

The 21-year-old Kirilenko, who upended Frenchwoman Stephanie Cohen-Aloro in the semifinals, won her second singles title of the year and the fourth of her young career by disposing of Sanchez, 6-0, 6-2.

Kirilenko also triumphed at Estoril by beating Iveta Benesova.

Sanchez, who beat Kirilenko in their only previous matchup, was appearing in her first career final.

Kirilenko collected $22,900 with her win.
