Nadal, Djokovic advance; Roddick upset at Rogers CupToronto, ON (Sports Network) - Second-seeded Rafael Nadal and third-seeded Novak Djokovic advanced Thursday at the $2,615,000 Rogers Masters in Toronto, but sixth-seeded Andy Roddick wasn't as fortunate to get out of the third round. Roddick could not handle young Marin Cilic, who bested the American 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Nadal, the reigning Wimbledon champion, ousted Russian Igor Andreev 6-2, 7-6
(7-1), while Djokovic, the defending champion, took out Sweden's Robin
Soderling 6-4, 6-4 to move on. German Nicolas Kiefer outlasted Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, the fourth seed, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. France's Richard Gasquet, seeded 10th in the tournament, made quick work of fifth-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer 6-3, 6-3. Frenchman Gilles Simon, who recorded a shocking 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 upset over top- seeded Roger Federer on Wednesday, dominated Jose Acasuso of Argentina to the tune of 6-3, 6-4. Ninth-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland was upended by No. 8 seed Andy Murray in a three-set battle, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. American James Blake needed all three sets to take down Dmitry Tursunov, with the No. 7 seed scoring a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 comeback win.
