Parmentier, Zakopalova advance in BarcelonaBarcelona, Spain (Sports Network) - Fifth-seeded Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier and seventh-seeded Czech Klara Zakopalova highlighted Monday's opening-round winners at the $145,000 Barcelona KIA tennis event. Parmentier snuck past Croat Sanda Mamic 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, while Zakopalova came from behind to beat Croat Karolina Sprem 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 on the red clay at La Taixonera. Top-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel was tied with Spanish crowd favorite Nuria Llagostera Vives 5-5 when their match was suspended due to darkness. Other Day-1 wins came for Spanish wild cards Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Eloisa Compostizode Andres, American Varvara Lepchenko, and Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova. American Meghann Shaughnessy defeated Romanian Edina Gallovits in last year's finale here. An injured Shaughnessy is not on hand this week. The 2008 Barcelona champion will collect $22,900.
