Robredo, Canas move into Warsaw quartersWarsaw, Poland (Sports Network) - Second-seeded and defending champion Tommy Robredo and fifth-seeded Guillermo Canas highlighted Thursday's second- round winners at the $670,000 Warsaw Open. The Spanish Robredo was leading Wayne Odesnik 6-4, 1-1 when the American retired due to a right leg injury, while the Argentine Canas held off Spaniard Santiago Ventura 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 at this clay-court event that used to be held in Sopot.
Robredo defeated 2002 champion Jose Acasuso in last year's finale in
Sopot and also captured this tournament in 2001. In other Day-4 action, Oscar Hernandez ousted eighth-seeded fellow Spaniard Albert Montanes 6-3, 6-2 and Italian Fabio Fognini was leading Christophe Rochus 5-4 in the first set when the Belgian retired with a left leg problem. Friday's quarterfinals will pit top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko against fellow Russian Evgeny Korolev, Robredo versus his fellow Spaniard Hernandez, third- seeded Argentine Juan Monaco against seventh-seeded Spaniard Marcel Granollers and Canas versus Fognini. Davydenko captured this event in 2006.
