Robredo topples Berdych for Swedish Open title

Bastad, Sweden (Sports Network) - Tommy Robredo knocked off Tomas Berdych in straight sets to capture the Swedish Open title.

The third-seeded Robredo notched a 6-4, 6-1 victory in Sunday's final to earn his seventh career ATP singles title and second in Bastad. He also won this tournament two years ago.

Sunday marked Robredo's second final of 2008. The Spaniard lost to Nikolay Davydenko in the title match at Warsaw last month. He is now 7-7 lifetime in ATP singles finals.

The fourth-seeded Berdych was trying for his fourth career ATP crown and first since capturing the Wimbledon tuneup in Halle last year. His best previous result in 2008 was a semifinal loss to Rafael Nadal in Miami.

Berdych was also a finalist at this event three years ago, losing to Nadal. The Czech fell to 3-4 lifetime in ATP finals.

Robredo broke serve twice to take the first set, then gained an early break in the second and cruised from there. He finished with five breaks in seven opportunities.

The victory was worth $86,000 for Robredo, who evened the all-time series against Berdych at 2-2.
