Santoro wins Hall of Fame Tennis ChampionshipsNewport, RI (Sports Network) - Second-seeded Fabrice Santoro defended his title with a straight-sets victory over Indian wild card Prakash Amritraj in the final of the $385,000 Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. The 35-year-old Santoro won 6-3, 7-5 to become only the third repeat winner in the tournament's history, joining Bryan Shelton and Greg Rusedski. Santoro improved to 9-0 all-time at the event.
Amritraj, 24, who is the first Indian to reach a final on the ATP since
Leander Paes claimed the 1998 Newport title, fell to 6-2 this season. Santoro won $64,000 for the tournament win, while Amritraj collected $34,000.
