Errani wins; Parmentier falls in Barcelona


Barcelona, Spain (Sports Network) - Sixth-seeded Italian Sara Errani posted a second-round win, while fifth-seeded Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier went by way of the upset Wednesday at the $145,000 clay-court Barcelona KIA tennis event.

Errani erased American Varvara Lepchenko 6-4, 7-5, while Parmentier was sent packing by wild card and Spanish crowd favorite Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-2, 6-4 at La Taixonera.

In other Day-3 action, Nuria Llagostera Vives handled wild card fellow Spaniard Eloisa Compostizode Andres 6-3, 6-0 and France's Stephanie Cohen- Aloro erased Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova 7-6 (7-3), 6-0.

The second round will conclude here on Thursday, including matches between second-seeded Russian Maria Kirilenko and French Open quarterfinalist Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain and seventh-seeded Czech Klara Zakopalova and 2007 Barcelona finalist Edina Gallovits of Romania. Gallovits was last year's runner-up to American Meghann Shaughnessy.

The 2008 Barcelona champion will collect $22,900.
