Wozniak wins at Stanford for first career title

Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Canada's Aleksandra Wozniak bested France's Marion Bartoli to win the $600,000 Bank of the West Classic tennis event on Sunday.

Wozniak succeeded in winning her first career title by defeating Bartoli 7-5, 6-3 on the hardcourts at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

In the second set, Wozniak had a 2-1 lead before Bartoli asked for a trainer during a changeover. After that, Wozniak broke for a 3-1 lead as Bartoli was limping badly while clutching her left hip and eventually lost the match.

The 20-year-old Wozniak, who is ranked 85th in the world, also became the fifth Canadian ever to claim a WTA singles crown. She brought home $95,500 for the win.

Wozniak made it to the finals after top-seeded Serena Williams withdrew with a left knee injury in the semifinal's on Saturday.
